Our trip to Nepal

In October we visited Nepal – it was an amazing trip. We fell in love with the country and the people – and recently our heart breaks for the current situation there.

I’m sharing these photographs for two reasons. Firstly, you might consider a trip to Nepal at some stage. Its an amazing country and highly recommended. Secondly, we’d love you to help our Nepal fund here.

We were visiting some N.Irish friends in Nepal who now do some missionary work there. They are safe and well – which is a big relief.

So here’s a brief overview of our trip…

The best thing about Nepal are the people – so warm, friendly and interesting.

There are amazing historic locations to – this one is now in ruins..

Kathmandu is a vibrant city – there’s always a buzz around it.

2015-05-29_0005

…and a big difference between city and country life…

2015-05-29_0007

At one stage we visited a local village. They welcomed us with open arms – and our 4yr old with his blonde hair and white skin was a celebrity! We’ve no way of knowing if these people are safe.

Finally, we got invited by Shiva and his wife for a meal in another local village.  It was about a 40min walk from the bus stop to his house up dirt paths. The smoke in the right hand side picture below is our meal being prepared.. It’s very humbling when you realise how little some of these people have – yet they serve you up their best meal.

Some of the homes in the village. These have been badly damaged by 2 major earthquakes.

We want to be able to send Shiva and his family a gift to help rebuild. We also want to send a  donation to the wider appeal. We can’t do much – but every little helps.

New portraiture products!

Todays an exciting day – we get to launch our brand new portraiture products and pricing. Actually, I’ve pretty much went through the whole process from top to bottom – I hope it makes your experience with us even better!

1. Every portrait session now comes with a complimentary planning meeting.

From today, all new portrait customers will be invited in to the studio for a 10-15min planning session. I’ll show you the styles (more on that in a moment), chat through what to wear, the photographs you want and give you some ideas on products. I think this will really be of benefit to our customers.

2. A range of styles to choose from…

Over the last few years, almost everything photographed in the studio has been on a white background. We still love it – but realise that it doesn’t suit everyone.

Nouveau

The Nouveau style is what you will be used to from Peter Thomas Photography. It’s bright, airy, contemporary, fun. Primarily on a white background, this style looks particularly stunning in black and white and is ideal for young families.

Classique

Classique is our stunning new style. It’s elegant and timeless, yet very much in fashion. Shot primarily on a textured, hand painted background this style is perfect for anyone wanting stunning portraits – from couples to families. This style looks fantastic in black and white.

Naturel

Naturel is our outdoor style. Why not have your portrait done on location at a park, beach, home or other location that means something to you. Usually photographed in colour, this style adds an extra dimension to your portraits by incorporating your story with the location.

We worked with a local framer to develop our gorgeous new mounts. Our new double mount is 3500microns deep – thats about 2.5times deeper than a normal mount. This high quality Lignin-free card, our professionally printed photographs and deluxe frames will ensure your portrait is around for many generations to come.

– Fine Art Prints

We have invested in a state of the art 24in printer allowing us to print amazing fine art prints in house! We are printing on beautiful 308gsm Hannemuhle fine art paper, meeting the highest industry standards regarding density, colour gamut, colour graduation, image sharpness and archival. Simply put it looks and feels great and will last for many generations to come!

New Engagement Products

I’ve been working away at refreshing pretty much our entire product range! First up was our engagement packages and I’m delighted to share all the details with you!

Every wedding now comes with a free engagement shoot!

We usually do them somewhere local – Botanic Gardens, Ormeau Park, Titanic Quarter, Cathedral Quarter…but I’m always happy to travel further (we’ll charge you a small mileage fee just to cover fuel).

It’s a great opportunity to gain a little experience in front of the camera. For me, apart from being a fun thing to do, we often sell some nice products after the shoot.

Signing Book

We are so excited about our new signing book! It comes with a beautiful box and thick pages with gorgeous art paper. We’ve left space for your guests to leave you a nice greeting.

Album of the Year Finalist!

I’m delighted to have been selected as a finalist for the PPANI Wedding Album of the Year!

I won the award 2years ago and it meant so much to me. I’ve won other awards in the past, but the album of the year is probably my favourite. Rather than just producing one great image, it requires an album full of consistently great images, and of course some good album design!

Some very very tough competition this year but fingers crossed. The winners will be announced at a gala event in the Galgorm Resort & Spa at the end of March.

Champagne flows at PPANI Shoot-out!

There would be 4 photographers. We’d each get just 30mins with a bride and groom, and then a strict 30mins to edit. All this would be done with 30 of our peers watching our every move. Yikes! Even worse, the winner would then be decided by a secret ballot of all the PPANI members!

Funny once I got started it wasn’t so bad. The couple had never met each other before – so that added a new element to the mix. 30mins was nowhere near long enough when you take into consideration the time to walk between locations – but we just had to work ultra fast and accurately.

We’ll I’m delighted to say I won the shoot-out! It was a lovely surprise – and nice way to end the day! Here’s some of the photographs I took in that 30mins….

0005 00030006  0002 I think this one is my favourite – not bad for a couple who had never met before!0004 0007 Oh hold on, maybe this one is my favourite – Becki looking great at the door to the castle…

I only started setting up this next shot with 55secs left on the clock – so I was pleased with how it turned out!
0014

Funny I didnt really rate the next shot when I was speed-editing – but now that I’m reviewing the photos again I quite like it. It’s taken on the stairs from above…

And there you go – hope you enjoyed the insight into how I spent my Monday! Congratulations also to the other photographers who took part – some stunning images!

My trip to the Lake District

0008

I travelled by plane / train / automobile to The lovely Lake District to visit Aspire Training. Their ‘Little Rascals’ course is run by Kate Hopewell Smith. She’s a well known and really good photographer specialising in kids.

It was really amazing just to watch her work with kids – I learned a lot about lifestyle photography and I cannot wait to implement it all!

Here’s a few behind the scenes photos of the course.

I also won the Wedding Album of the Year. Was really delighted at that one as its judges on a whole wedding rather than just one image. Wohoo!

New Storybook Album!

Kelly’s mission for this morning was to take a few photos of some new albums! An album refresh was one of my winter projects – soo glad to have got them and really happy with the result. I’ll post the second example later on in the week, but for now here’s the new storybook. I’ve never had a square storybook before and I really like it! The rectangular versions are still available ofcourse…

The square format gives a different feel in terms of layout:

There are loads of cover options – this one is pewter ‘nappa’ leather to match the bridesmaid colours..
We’ll even throw in some free weeds with the album 🙂

If you have any questions just let me know!
