So, you’ve booked a photoshoot – exciting! But with the excitement often comes a looming question: what should I wear? Fear not – this guide will help you navigate the world of photoshoot attire, ensuring you look and feel your best in front of the lens.
Dress for You, and the Occasion
First things first, consider the type of photoshoot you have booked. Is it a casual headshot for your business profile, a glamorous session celebrating a special occasion, or a relaxed fun family shoot? Knowing the vibe will help you choose clothes that reflect the tone. But remember, within that theme, prioritise your own style! Feeling confident and comfortable in your outfit shows through in the photos. So if you are more casual – dress that way. If you like to get all glammed up – feel free to dress that way. We recommend bringing a few outfits with you – so you can even try a few different styles.
Colours
Solid colours generally photograph better than busy patterns, which can be distracting. Neutrals like beige, khaki, and soft blues are always a safe bet. Don’t be afraid of a pop of colour, though! A brightly coloured scarf or statement necklace can add personality. If you’re coordinating outfits with others, like in a family shoot, aim for complementary colours.
Top Tip: Same colour, different shade.
Example: Shades of green.
Wearing the same colour in different shades is a great way to create unity in the image. Choose a palette to suit your home.
Top Tip: Colour Pop
Add a splash of colour whether you match or clash, it can brighten up your images. A great way to ensure kids feel involved is to allow them to pick one of their outfits.
Top Tip: Make it personal
Teddy Bears, Sports kits, musical instruments, golf clubs – whatever you are into bring it along! It’s a great way to make your photographs personal and unique to you.
Things to avoid
We’re always happy to break the rules, but in general avoid smart watches, transition lenses – and remember to clear your pockets and take off any hair bobbles! We’d usually advise avoiding very large logos on your clothing and strong patterns. Make sure you bring clean shoes or go barefoot!
Bonus Tip: Communicate with your photographer! We’ll be happy to guide you – share your outfit ideas – we’re both working towards the same goal: creating stunning photos that you’ll treasure forever.
