Each new season brings with it an exciting array of new bridal trends. In the first of a two part series, guest blogger Aideen McCanny discusses the sensational styles taking spring/summer 2015 bridal catwalks by storm!
Beach chic
Who would have thought that designers had the destination bride in mind when creating their 2015 collections? But the beach chic boho trend isn’t confined to just warmer climes as brides marrying at home choose this look. From cut outs, to crop tops and chic city shots, we have Olivia Palermo to thank for inspiring this new trend. While you may not be ready to forgo your dreamy dress, nod to this style in a floaty chiffon gown or sophisticated separates.
Colourful creations
Perfect for the more daring bride-to-be, designers have taken a step away from white and ivory and ventured into colourful creations. Traditional brides are wowed by pastel tones of perfect peaches, luscious lilacs and powder blues, while the unconventional bride is opting for a bolder colour palette of punchy purples and ruby reds. Longing for a true stand-out-from-the-crowd dress? Go for a combination of colours in a dramatic silhouette like this Atelier Aimée ballgown.
Terrific tulle
Tulle remains the texture of choice this season but designers are choosing new and interesting ways to present the fabric. From light as air overlays to floaty floral skirts, Monique Lhuillier, Vera Wang and Carolina Herrera are just a few of the names giving ballgown shapes a touch of romance. For a hint of modernity, tiered tulle layers embody a couture vibe.
Caped crusader
Love it or hate it, the cape trend is HUGE this spring and perfect for the Northern Ireland climate! Whether you’re a bride who wants to cover up or create some drama as you walk down the aisle, capes add an unexpected twist to your wedding day look. The red carpet inspired trend has been taken on by plenty of bridal fashion designers and while a full length blinged-out cape is perfect for anyone wanting to make a style statement on their big day, the more subdued, sheer lace caplets are ideal for the bride who wants a traditional take on the trend.
Pop your collar
For the bride who wants to look like a queen on her wedding day, collars add a certain sense of regalness to a gown. High necklines were a popular choice with 2014 brides and this year the trend goes to the next level. From delicate diamante detailing to luscious lace, collars give dresses an edge of sophistication! This Ian Stuart ballgown offers a contemporary twist on a beautifully traditional look.
